Richard Olson began work in the design field at Criteria Architects in St. Paul in
1980 assisting in all facets of the firm’s work, including earth-sheltered and passive
solar. Within three years he was on his own with an Interior Design Practice working
with major clients such as Aveda Corporation. In 1985 Olson established EnvironDesign
as an interdisciplinary umbrella under which he collaborates with other professionals.
He became a Minnesota Certified Interior Designer in 1994.
Having spent much of his career creating award winning environments and fixture systems
for major and boutique retailers, Olson now devotes about half of his time to the
design of unique custom homes and furnishings. His other work involves the creation
of retail, gallery, office and hospitality spaces.
